“Let’s Open a Shop!”
At the suggestion of David Jennings, the then Archdeacon, Barbara Blackwell, whose
idea it was to open a shop, wrote the booklet published in 1999.
In the forward the Bishop of Chelmsford wrote “’Let’s open a shop’ is the story of
how the shop was conceived and set up to support Christ Church’s Development Fund.
But it tells much more than the story of fund raising; the book is the story of the
discovery of a new and extra dimension of Christian love within both church membership
and with non-members: it tells how the shop, initially set up to raise funds, became
an embassy for mission for Christ Church”.
And I am very proud to say this remains so today, thanks to a dedicated group of
volunteers. (Rev Simon Roscoe 2009)
